Happy New Year

Last night in SPI. This is our New Years dinner at Russo's our favorite spot for Pizza.

We made the almost 400 miles yesterday from SPI to Del Rio, TX. Uneventful drive with fairly good roads most of the way. Using google maps it doesn't know we are a RV and took up through a number of city streets, the worst being into Del Rio. But we made it to the campground around 3 pm. We have not stayed here before and did not know what to expect. This is a cash or check place, no CC. It was a trailer park in the past that they are converting to a campground.

I should also point out it is on a dead end street. However, Peggy (person in charge) was very accommodating and gave us our choice of several spots. We choose #9, an end site with shade trees and patio.  If they keep the sites like they are we would stay here again.

We drove into town to get the Jeep washed and to pick up some dog food for Buddy. In the past we stayed at Broke Mill RV park just outside of town but had trouble contacting them this time so we took a ride out to the campground only to find that it no longer there. In it place is "Base Camp Alfa", a National Guard camp. They took over the entire campground and more to set up a huge National Guard complex. Maybe the Governor felt it was better to have the Guard right next to the border.

We did take a drive to the border fence and saw two National Guard vehicles and one guardsman there plus two Border Patrol vehicles. There were also several cases of water sitting by the wall. I did notice on our trip here several blue 40 gallon containers along the highway with the name Agua (Spanish for water).

Also saw a nice big buck standing in the medium strip. He was maybe 10 feet off the highway but no fence to keep him there. Just glad he stayed there as I went by. Also saw several javelina just off the highway.

Made my round banana bread, tasted great.
