Its been over a week since I worked on this blog, so here we go.

We headed out from Big Water (always the start of our adventures) into the valley and on to Crosby Canyon to Lake Powell. We thought we would spend the day just sitting looking at the lake. Diane brought her tablet along and read a book and I used my metal detector to search for treasures. The only thing I found was a metal tent stake but it was a chance to get some exercise.

We spent about 4 hours by the water, had lunch and just enjoyed the lake. Buddy laid in the shade of our awning as there were sand spurs everywhere.  I did have to pull a number of them from his feet.

The Island to the right in the picture was not visible last year.

We went to the Antelope Point Marina Restaurant for lunch this past week and were amazed at how low the Marina and Restaurant sat in the water compared to last year. Like I said earlier the water level dropped 36 feet from last year. In addition it went down another 2 feet last week. The pictures below are of the walkway to the Marina from the parking lot. Last year there was a drop of about 10 feet at the end of the walkway so it was closed to people. Instead they built another metal ramp around the rocks and used UTV's to shuttle people back and forth. Check out this years picture of the drop in the walkway.

We hiked the Red Mesa Rim twice this past week. Easy hike of 2.4 miles. We got our 5000 steps in and worked up a little sweat. The view on the north side of the rim is beautiful but on the south you overlook part of the city of Page and its storage and junk yards. We will do it again before we leave here for Moab in 10 days.

We also headed back to Big Water on Thursday to check out what lay at the end of a road we have taken several time but never to its end. After 34 miles we came across a corral and several people on horseback. The trail lead us directly into the corral. We stopped and talked to one person and he did say that we could go through his gate and continue on. However, he stated that we may have to winch ourselves along on the trail several times. We do have a winch on the Jeep but chose not to continue on this path.

End of the road for us at least in this direction.

As we headed back we came across Croton Road. This is the trail we were on last year when we got lost and it was a very rough trail. Diane reminded me that we said we would never do this this road again. Yet here we are, decisions, oh what the hell. Here we go again. This part of the trail was rough with lots of rocks to climb over but not as bad as the other part of the trail we were on last year.

The exception was one area, as we climbed the mountain with just enough room for on vehicle, there was a huge boulder laying on the edge of the cliff. We needed to get around it on the mountain side which was angled toward the boulder. As we crept along at such a steep angle that I thought I could have reached out the window and touched the ground, looking down the mountain side. We made it past the boulder and got the Jeep standing upright. That was the steepest angle we have put the Jeep on. Didn't think until later of all the extra weight on the roof rack hanging from my side of the Jeep.

The rest of the trail was rocky or sand and was a great ride. In all that day we did 118 miles in the mountains. We left the campground at 8:30 am and returned at 5:30 pm. A great day.

Living quarters we came across in the mountains.

Rock and mud added under this rock overhand for living quarters.

If I can I will add more videos of our trip on the FB page as it is not working well on this blog.

Fuel prices are $5.09 for diesel and $4.19 for gas here. McDonald 2-cheeseburger value meal is $14.00, Subway 6 inch sandwich is $15.00.
