The adventure continues. Yesterday  we lost all 12 volt power. It controls heat, air, lights, fans, and the slides. So we could not leave today as planed. I pulled things apart in the basement yesterday, checking batteries and electrical components. 

After several hours of in and out the basement areas I figured that the battery disconnect solenoid was the problem. There was power going into the unit but nothing coming out to power the 12 volt system. Being Sunday no options to get things fixed. 

We did have 110 power so we could turn on portable electric heater at night. But we had no lights so the flashlight came in handy. Even the TV didn't work as the antenna is power by 12 volts. The temp got down to 30 degrees during the night but we were able to keep the temp inside at 60 degrees with the heater going full blast.

This morning I contacted Entegra to see if they had the part, which they did and they could overnight it for an additional $50.  Hopefully it comes tomorrow as the temps are to drop again Tuesday. I did stop by Jimmy's RV repair in Deming, NM to see if he had the part, but he did not. Jimmy did give me a jumper cable to see if I could jump the terminals on the solenoid to get power. Luckily it did work and we have power to the coach for now. 

Now we wait for the replacement part, reinstall and get underway. We will have to change our route and cancel a couple of reservations but at least we will be on the road again. And who knows, maybe this will take care of all my electrical problems we have had.

 December 20, 2024 We have been in Study Butte for a week now and have enjoyed every minute. The weather has held at 75 degrees daily with lows at night about 45. We do have to turn the heat on early morning and air conditioning in the late afternoon but we can handle that. We spent a day in Big Bend National Park on Tuesday. It was a 25 mile dirt and rock road within the park that took us 4 hours to complete. We did meet two motorcycles and two trucks on the route coming from the opposite direction.  We ended up backing up for about 1/4 mile and hugging the side of a hill to let the two trucks pass.  It was a 35 mile drive to the trail and 50 miles after the trail to get back to our campsite. Yesterday we drove back to Alpine, TX to pick up a prescription for Diane, get the Jeep washed and pick up some groceries. This is a 80 mile trip one-way.  December 29, 2024 Last post of 2024.  This past week we headed west on 170 past Lajitas to explore what was a native sleeping area in the Big Bend State Park (not to be confused with the Big Bend National Park) about 40 miles from Study Butte. Each hole is a sleeping area in the rock.  Robin, the RV Park owners mother, was our tour guide. She had visited the area, spending quite a bit of time with her daughter exploring the area and was a wealth of information. In walking around the area and climbing up the rocks you could see the areas where the natives carved out the rock for sleeping quarters.   There were 50-100 of these areas carved into the rock from ground level up the hill side. There was still an adobe structure on site as you can see from the pictures. When we left the area, a dirt road leading back toward the mountains called to me so I had to explore.  December 15, 2024 Well it has been an interesting week since we left home. The RV electrical problems that plagued me while at  home continued as we made our way south. I had replaced the Inverter/Charger the day before we left and thought everything was working fine. However, that was short lived. On a daily basis the 12 volt system would shut down leaving us without power for heat, hot water and lights. Could not get water to flush the toilets but we did have 120 volt power to run the space heaters we had along.  We only stayed a day at the first three stops and each time we encountered problems with the electrical system. This meant pulling a number of items out from under the coach and crawling inside to check and reset the inverter. I looked at and checked everything from wiring to fuses and breakers.
