Another week has passed and we are doing fine. We managed to hike several trails this past week hitting our step goals each time. First we visited Big Bend State Park and hiked the Closed Canyon Trail. What an amazing trail. You head down into a wash which takes you into a gap between the mountains. From the road and even 100 feet away you cannot see the opening. We walked and climbed down the very smooth rocks (Diane slid down, lol) until we came to the "end of the trail". The sign hung over the section of the gap that was filled with water from the Rio Grand River. When the river is high or in the rainy season you need to be careful hiking in this area as it can flood quickly. It is amazing how smooth the rocks on both sided of the gap are from erosion over 100s of years. (I have a video that I will share on FB of the gap).

We were glad we had our jacket along as the temp was at least 10 degrees cooler in the gap. |

Rio Grand River in Gap and not far from Mexico at this point. It looked like the drop was about 15 feet down to the water. |
Next we went back to Indian Mountain Trail this time hiking about 4 miles. It was a beautiful day and about 50 degrees outside. We just wanted to get out and this was the closest trail to the campground. We had the trail all to ourselves and took our time and enjoyed the day.
Yesterday we did what I like best; we Jeeped up Christmas Mountain for the 2nd time. We reserved the spot so we were the only ones on the mountain. It was very windy up top but we did stop for lunch before heading back down the mountain side.

We did make it off the mountain in time to head to the local Cinnabar Theater for the premier showing of a movie filmed in Study Butte/Terlingua called "The Big Bend". The director and producer were there too. Not a big Hollywood production but a movie none the less. It was interesting to see on the screen places that Diane and I have been to. It premiered here and now will be out so you can stream via internet.
The theater itself was the reason we wanted to go. We did not know what to expect from Study Butte and as things go the building represented the area. It was a pole building with aluminum siding and roof. Seating was on a raised slanted platform and to our surprise the seats were regular theater seats.
There was no cost to see the movie, popcorn and drinks were "by donation" only, even though they told what the donation should be. So we had a couple of beers and popcorn and threw our donation into the jar to cover the cost and more.

Now it was time for dinner, Diane suggested pizza and I could not refuse. We headed to our favorite (and only) pizza place. A couple more beers and great pizza and it was time to head to the campground, it was a full day for us (old) folks.
