Our 27 Day

We have been in Study Butte for 11 days and for the most part we have been sick:( Diane got it first, chest cold with cough. A few days later I came down with similar stuff, sinus, runny nose and cough. But we have made the best of it. The weather has been warm with highs in the mid 70's. lots of sunshine with only a few drops of rain. Down here it is a big deal when they get 1 tenth inch of rain.

We have managed to get out and drive around the country side looking at what had changed since we were last here. There is lots of new housing construction and camping areas if you like yurts, single room A-frames and overnight rental units.

We were in the back country and saw a for sale sign listing 40 acres with two older homes on. We found it and the homes were 10 X 12 foot corrugated steel rusted and falling apart.

There are a lot of home like this that are lived in. More and more you will find a steel structure with a camper under it. Not sure what type of building codes there are around here as it seems anything goes.

We made two trips into Big Bend National park.

The Rio Grand river runs in the gap of these two mountains into Mexico.

The first for a couple of hours just looking around and then yesterday we did six hours in the park and 47 miles on dirt roads in the back country. The first 17 miles was easy and the park crews repaired some of the road but the rest was a bit rocky with a few areas that challenged you.

We came across one other vehicle on our 47 mile excursion. Plus a few cattle, one roadrunnner, and Diane believes she saw a snake (but no picture, so I'm calling her bluff)

Time for lunch. Two things required when we head out; full tank of gas and a case of water.

Rio Grande, the middle of the river is the border between US and Mexico.

The videos are from Black Gap road in the park. At one point I had Diane out front directing me over some large rocks. The Jeep performed well and the 2 extra inches of clearance on this Jeep paid off.

We are ready for Moab's Jeep Safari in March.

Monday we will be heading to Carlsbad, New Mexico to check out what that area has to offer. We will have to check out the Carlsbad Caverns for sure.
