April 10, 2021 Our last few days at Horse Cave KOA took us into town to visit the Hidden River Cave in downtown Horse Cave, Kentucky. This cave has two subterranean rivers flowing over one hundred feet below ground. It also has the world's longest underground swinging bridge taking you up into the Sunset Dome, one of the largest free-standing cave domes in the United States. It is 100 feet high and 250 feet across. This cave once supplied the city with water via a hydroelectric generating system. It lay 100 feet below ground and there are 230 steps to go down and come back up. This was our campsite for a week at Horse Cave KOA. We think we had the best view in the campground. We could watch the Amish building "tree house" for the campground 20 feet in the air. They were also clearing a large area of trees for another project. They have 3 of these wagons for rent with a 4th coming. This "tree house" was framed and windows in this week and they started on a se...
March 4, 2026 We have been in Page, AZ for a few days now. Took a drive yesterday to Lone Rock National Park. The Park has huge beaches on Lake Powell. From were we parked the Jeep it took Diane about 7 minutes to walk to the edge of the beach. There were several campers parked on the beach boon docking. It is a beautiful area but the water level has gone down 32 to 36 feet since last year. I have attached a picture from 2025 and from yesterday . March 2025 March 2026 Since 2017 Lake Powell has dropped by 98 feet and is actually operating at about 25% to 30% of its capacity or 148 feet below full capacity. Here are some more pictures of the area. What is nice about this park is that they have an Off Road area that goes up and down some steep hills and through the sand. We had to try it this year as we did not last year. Diane had to get out several times as we crested the top of a hill to see which direction I should turn my tires as I could not see anythi...
March 22, 2026 Its been over a week since I worked on this blog, so here we go. We headed out from Big Water (always the start of our adventures) into the valley and on to Crosby Canyon to Lake Powell. We thought we would spend the day just sitting looking at the lake. Diane brought her tablet along and read a book and I used my metal detector to search for treasures. The only thing I found was a metal tent stake but it was a chance to get some exercise. We spent about 4 hours by the water, had lunch and just enjoyed the lake. Buddy laid in the shade of our awning as there were sand spurs everywhere. I did have to pull a number of them from his feet. The Island to the right in the picture was not visible last year. We went to the Antelope Point Marina Restaurant for lunch this past week and were amazed at how low the Marina and Restaurant sat in the water compared to last year. Like I said earlier the water level dropped 36 feet from last year. ...
