April 10, 2021 Our last few days at Horse Cave KOA took us into town to visit the Hidden River Cave in downtown Horse Cave, Kentucky. This cave has two subterranean rivers flowing over one hundred feet below ground. It also has the world's longest underground swinging bridge taking you up into the Sunset Dome, one of the largest free-standing cave domes in the United States. It is 100 feet high and 250 feet across. This cave once supplied the city with water via a hydroelectric generating system. It lay 100 feet below ground and there are 230 steps to go down and come back up. This was our campsite for a week at Horse Cave KOA. We think we had the best view in the campground. We could watch the Amish building "tree house" for the campground 20 feet in the air. They were also clearing a large area of trees for another project. They have 3 of these wagons for rent with a 4th coming. This "tree house" was framed and windows in this week and they started on a se...
February 6, 2025 We arrived at our campsite near Lake Powell on Saturday. Brand new campground connected to the marina. Diane said it looked like a golf course with all the green artificial turf. Facing the mountains with beautiful views all around. Boat storage below campground. Flat bottom boats up to 100 feet long and 24 foot wide. On Tuesday we took a short drive into Page, AZ and on to the Carl Hayden Visitor center by Glen Canyon Dam & Bridge. Similar to the Hoover Dam it is massive. You cannot walk across the dam like at Hoover but you can walk on the bridge to get great shots and view of the dam. This guy is either cutting grass or scraping up the algae on the surface above the generators at the bottom of the dam. Glen Canyon dam If you are standing on the bridge when a semi goes by everything shakes. The green area, Jp\o,s in the lower middle is where the guy with the lawnmower was. Yesterday we took a tour to Lower Antelope Canyon on the...
March 22, 2025 This passed Sunday we ventured out into the mountains to find the Skylight Arch. After a few miles of dirt road and a mile hike we stumbled upon this gaping hole in the mountain with a arch on the far side. Quite a site but if you walked 50 feet to the left you may not see it at all. You can walk across the arch, which I had to do. Great view from here. We had to drag Buddy as he doesn't want to hike most of the time. The only time he moves faster is when he knows we are heading back the way we came. You don't want to misstep around here. There is always interesting rock formation to view. You can see forever, snow capped mountain in the background. Next we headed to west of Kanab about 1.75 hours from our campsite to hike the Belly of the Dragon. This has been on my bucket list for a couple of years now and this is the closest we have gotten, so I just had to take the time to see the site. You can hike for a mile and half you if you wa...
