April 11, 2023

Been a while since I last posted because we have been doing a lot and as old people we do have to take an occasional nap.

Salt Lake City for Diane was 4 days of work (enjoyment) at the Mormon Family Center doing research. I was the house mom taking of the coach, doing a run to Home Depot, Pet Store and grocery. I got some down time and finished watching a series on Netflix.

It snowed for 3 of the 5 days we were here with total accumulation of about 7 inches. I had to get the ladder out, climb up and brush the snow of the slide toppers.

Our next stop was Moab, Utah and the day before we left SLC I got an email from a Jeep parts supplier about a Jeep Safari in Moab. Little did we know that there was going to be thousands of Jeeps in Moab. Luckily we had a campground reservation for 5 days (Friday thru Tuesday). It was the last weekend of the rally. After we set up camp we headed into Moab and found the rally headquarters.

We lucked out again as they had an opening for  a Jeep Safari the following day. It was classified as an easy route (3 out of 10). Because we signed up for the Safari we got a raffle ticket for that evenings drawing.

Most of the vendors at the rally donate items instead of taking them back. There was a total of $226,000 (yup that's right) in giveaways. Set of 5 tires valued at $2500, an e-bike for $5600 and countless other Jeep stuff most of which went for $500 to $1500 in value. It was over in 2 hours.

By the way the first prize was a set of tires and I had the first 3 numbers and missed the last number by 1.

The next morning we were on our way to the Jeep Safari getting there by 8:30 am. In all there was 25 Jeeps lined up for the Safari, we were number 5. After a drivers meeting and short drive we hit the trail called Secret Spire. Diane and I thought we had done some rough Jeep trails in the past but to our amazement this was far beyond what we expected.

We climbed over so many rock mountains trails, scraping bottom several times. We definitely need more ground clearance if we are to continue on these types of trails. This was a 3; hate to see what a 5 or 7 or  a 10 might entail. The book said to expect roll overs on the 10 rated trails.

There is a you-tube video that the guy in the number 4 slot took looking at me through his rear window. It will give you some idea what we went through. My Jeep showed our roll status at 18 degrees and our pitch at 25 degrees.  https://youtu.be/vrKSY2q48dQ is the link. We got back to the campground at about 4:30 pm. Diane got all her steps in from jostling back and forth in the Jeep.😅

Sunday was more trails but I will save that for the next post.
