We spent the last 4 days in Bowie, AZ at a small campground that's specialty was jerky of all kinds. In Bowie there is nothing else but this place with the jerky, gas, propane and campsites. They also have a food truck which seemed to be the only restaurant in town. Most of the town is run down or closed up it seems.

We did several day trips into the mountains surrounding Bowie including a trip to Fort Bowie, Chiricahua National Monument, Coronado National Forest and then searching for ghost towns.

We did what is listed as a mile and half hike to Fort Bowie which ended up at 4.1 miles round trip. The altitude got to me on the way in as it was uphill most of the way. I had to make frequent stops: did not seem to bother Diane. there are just stone walls left of the fort today. But pictures of the original fort showed a huge complex of officers, infantry and civilian housing. There was a hospital, mess hall, stables and artillery buildings.

On our trek to the Coronado National Forest, the dirt trails turned to snow and then to undriven snow-packed trails with 4 to 8 inches of snow. Diane said it looks OK so onward we ventured. 3.6 miles up the side of the mountain we got stuck going around a switch back. Trails were just a little bit wider than the Jeep so turning around took a bit of maneuvering forward and back inches at a time. Mountain on one side and valley on other. It would have been a long walk out, but we made it out safely.

South Dakota has "Wahl Drugs" and Arizona had the "Thing". There are signs 200 miles before you get to The Thing so for shits and giggles we decided to stop. It asked the question: What if Alien's and dinosaurs lived on earth at the same time, and how these aliens "may have" affected the entire world history, such as affecting/starting wars, etc. There were two opposing factions, the Mylzerath clan (the warrior group) ad the Ammattria clan (the peaceful group), and they, according to the "what if"s) were on opposing sides throughout history. It would make a great sy-fi comic book.  It cost $5 to tour the museum and for that price it was worth the time and fun. I would say a lot of work went into the display.
