We have been in Galveston for a week now, leaving tomorrow for Lafayette, Louisiana. We will be staying at a Lake Fausse State Park for 5 days before heading out again.

As we drove from South Padre Island to Galveston we went through San Benito, home town of Freddy Fender, for those old enough to remember him.

Board Walk, downtown Galveston

this was set up on the sidewalk near the Market Place section of Galveston.

As we walked around the Market Place, we came across a Railroad Museum. Manny old pieces of Railroad history.

What was nice about this museum was that you could climb aboard.

Luxury car, cat followed us around for a bit.

Restroom in certain car rooms. I am sure it was 1st class.

Sleeper Car.

Interesting how things folded up and out of the way until you needed to use.

Post Office car where mail was sorted.

The old box car reminded my of the time spent hanging around the West Bend Depot. We climbed on many a box car.

Caboose

Diane in the Caboose lookout perch.

Dining Car was set up with mannequins.

This three mast ship was tied up just off Broadway St. near Market Place.

Around the harbor section there were wooden sculptures carved from trees in various yards.
These sculptures were made from ruined oak trees from when Hurricane Ike went thru Galveston in Sept. 2008. This one is "Great Dane". The tree had actually grown around the fence at the spot where the paws grip the fence. The owners of the house actually own a Great Dane named Hunter.

Tin Man and Toto carving. King Vidor, one of the directors of "The Wizard of Oz" was born in the front downstairs bedroom of the house.

"Angel Cradling Bunny". This yard is a bird, butterfly and bunny sanctuary.

There are a total of 21 carvings in this section of town.

Shot this behind our RV at the campground in Galveston. Sun landed atop the water tower looking like a golf ball on a tee.

This Old House, one of many in the neighborhood that were restored and look magnificent.

Gino's Italian Restaurant, our favorite in Galveston.
We both had the "special", an alfredo with a special sauce. It was delicious. The portions are so big we both had to take most of ours back to enjoy another day,

Since we were here last year there are a lot of empty stores around the Market Place in the Historic Section of Galveston.
